Salisbury
axle options
At
Rovertracks we have a great deal of experience with
the Salisbury axle. Using this experience we can build
your Salisbury to handle anything you might throw at
it up to 1,000 horsepower! Starting with a bare housing
we can add fitment for disc brakes using either D90
rear caliper and rotors or Defender 110 rear calipers
and rotors. Caliper brackets cost $140 per pair.
To
fit rotors on the drum braked Salisbury we suggest using
a pair of Suffix ‘A’ Range Rover hubs. Either
30 or 24 spline. These can be purchased used for around
$75 each.
The
business end of the axle
The half shafts in a stock Salisbury are pretty good,
under normal situations even with a locker they don’t
break...often. For those who like to play hard, Rovertracks
300M 30 spline (1.3125) axles are the answer. These
double splined Axles with Custom Flanges are made from
the best material available for the application. Try...just
try and break them!! $1200/set
Note:
the Stub axles will need to be Bored slightly to fit
these shafts. We can do this for $50 per stub axle.
For
those who like to be absolutely positive that no rock
will hurt your driveline, use the Rovertracks 35 spline
1.5” Axle Shafts. These brute’s are rated
at 9600 ft/lbs per shaft!!!! We fit them using Custom
stub axles, bigger wheel bearings, and boring the hubs
for the bigger bearings. We can fit this MASSIVE shaft
into your rear end. (is it just me or does that sound
dirty?)
Shafts $400
Stub Axles $800/pair
Boring $285/pair
We can also upsize your drive flange bolts to 7/16”
or add 5 more 10mm tapped holes for $100 per flange
prices exclusive of shipping
Salisbury
Lockers and Gears
Many of you may know that the Salisbury is closely related
to the Dana 60. Knowing this we can fit Dana gears in
a Salisbury housing without any trouble. All the bearings,
except the pinion nose bearing, are the same. There is
a standard nose bearing that is used to fit Dana gears
in the Sals.
Even the carrier split is the same!
Standard
Dana 60 gear ratios include 3.55:1, 3.73:1, 4.10:1, 4.56:1,
4.88:1, 5.29:1 and lower!
Dana Gears cost $250 per set
Expensive standard Rover ratios are limited to 3.54:1,
4.10:1, 4.75:1
Rover gears are very expensive new so we try to find them
used.
Used prices around $300 per set.
Dana
60 Lockers come in either 30 or 35 spline configurations,
with the 35 spline versions costing about 10% more. These
prices are only approximate as the cost varies quite a
bit depending on availablity.
Detroit Locker $550
ARB Air-locker $850
Eaton E-Locker (my favorite) $850
Ox Cable Locker $900
There are lots of different locker options available!!
Spools
cost about $250
Rover
Salisbury lockers
Detroit Locker 24, 30, 35 spline $440 (installs in stock
carrier)
ARB Air-Locker $850
Various Lockers from MaxiDrive and MCNamara (call for
pricing)
So
you want 4.56:1 gears in your Salisbury, but there are
no Rover type 4.56 gears for the front (they’d be
horribly weak if there where!) Stick a Toyota third member
up front. With quality you expect from Toyota it’s
a perfect match. Toyota has ratios that match Dana Ratios
perfectly!!
But that’s another
story...
